Yes! We Can End TB!
This year’s World Tuberculosis (TB) Day highlights the theme “Yes! We can end TB!”—a call for sustained commitment to global TB elimination.
TB remains a leading cause of infectious disease mortality worldwide. Ending TB strengthens health systems and contributes to national and global health security. In 2024, 10.7 million people developed TB and 1.24 million died from the disease.
TB incidence correlates strongly with social, economic and structural determinants of health, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities. Addressing TB requires coordinated multisectoral collaboration.
Investing in TB is both a public health priority and a strategic economic opportunity. Evidence shows that every dollar invested in TB prevention and care generates up to $43 in economic and health returns through reduced transmission, improved productivity and avoided healthcare costs.

Turning the Tide on TB
The Denver Health TB Clinic provides confidential, patient-centered care for TB testing and treatment. The clinic is a fundamental part of the Public Health Institute at Denver Health (PHIDH). Our team specializes in supporting individuals through all stages of TB management, including diagnosis, treatment adherence and infection prevention for patients and their contacts.
Driven by our mission to deliver culturally responsive care, advance health equity through trusting partnerships and share TB knowledge, we envision TB elimination locally, regionally and globally.
Our program serves seven Denver metro counties (Denver, Boulder, Broomfield, Jefferson, Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas) and treats the majority of Colorado’s TB cases annually. In 2025, we treated 83 new active TB cases—the highest annual count since 2007—conducted 48 contact investigations (evaluating 500+ exposures) and treated 479 people with latent TB.
Each new patient is assigned to a nurse case manager who advocates throughout treatment. Those with active TB benefit from our interdisciplinary model, collaborating with Disease Intervention Specialists (DIS) and medical providers. Our DIS team leads contact investigations in homes, workplaces, schools and detention facilities.
We prioritize patients by partnering with families to identify and address barriers—medical, psychosocial, and beyond—proactively managing treatment side effects like nausea. We also systematically tackle non-TB factors impacting outcomes (housing, food, transportation, mental health and more), providing direct assistance for food insecurity, health costs or income loss.
Our work thrives through research collaborations, community partnerships and ties with public health agencies and educational institutions. We welcome learners (NPs, PAs, physicians, RNs, MPH and MA students) and contribute to global TB research via the TB Epidemiologic Studies Consortium and Trials Consortium, including a clinical trial for shortened latent TB treatment.
