History and Mission
The Denver Prevention Training Center (PTC), a program of the Public Health Institute at Denver Health, has been building the capacity of health professionals in the United States through innovative training and technical assistance (TA) since 1979.
Serving thousands of healthcare providers every year, the Denver PTC provides in-person events that range form one-on-one peer directed education to large national conference, as well as developing e-learning products that range from a small ECHO series to large national webinars and self-paced online learning modules.
The Denver PTC also develops and delivers effective behavioral interventions and public health strategies, designs national curricula and resources, and builds mobile applications and websites to support prevention services. The Denver PTC partners and shares staff with the Denver Health LGBTQ+ Center of Excellence to provide training and TA services focused on LGBTQ+ affirming healthcare.
Currently Funded Efforts
With a focus on sexual health, including HIV and STDs, and patient navigation; the Denver PTC is currently funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to provide:
- HIV Capacity Building Assistance services to healthcare organizations around the United States.
- STD prevention training and TA to clinical care providers in an eight state region (AR, CO, LA, MS, OK, TX, UT, WY) and
- To serve as both the National Coordination Center and National Evaluation Center for the National Network of Clinical STD Prevention Training Centers.
The Denver PTC is also a planning organization for the National Sexual Health Conference and serves as a hub for ECHO Colorado.
