TB Program Information for Providers

Report a TB Case

In Colorado, cases of suspected or confirmed active TB disease must be reported to public health within one business day.

For patients who reside in the seven-county Denver metro area (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson), call us at 303-602-7240 to report a case.

For all other counties in Colorado, call the CDPHE TB Program at 720-258-6562 or contact your local public health agency to report a case.

For urgent after-hours referrals, consultations, or transfer requests, contact the Denver Health Transfer Center at 1-855-602-5280 and ask to speak to the infectious diseases physician on call.

Referral Guidelines

Suspected or confirmed active TB

As soon as you suspect active TB (pulmonary or extrapulmonary), please contact the tuberculosis clinic directly by phone at 303-602-7240 to report the case and triage the referral appropriately.

Please also complete our online referral form, upload relevant documents including results of TB blood or skin tests, imaging reports, and relevant clinical note(s), and request that relevant radiographic images be pushed to the Denver Health PACS system. Alternatively, please provide the patient with imaging on a disk to bring to their clinic visit.

People with suspected TB should be made aware that there is no charge for TB testing and treatment at the Denver Health TB Clinic.

Latent TB treatment

We encourage any person with a diagnosis of latent TB to discuss preventive treatment with their provider.

We currently provide free evaluation and treatment for latent TB for patients in Denver, Adams, Arapahoe, Douglas, Jefferson, Boulder, and Broomfield counties who meet any of the following criteria:

  • At elevated risk for progression to active TB (e.g., immunosuppression, recent contact to a person with active TB within 2 years, children under 5 years of age, or any patient with a 3% or more 20-year estimated risk using McGill calculator), OR
  • Complex treatment (unable to take recommended regimens, or treatment challenged by drug interactions, etc.)

Patients with latent TB infection who have access to treatment through their primary care provider or infectious diseases specialist do not need to be referred to public health for latent TB counseling and treatment, and do not need to be reported to public health.

Resources for latent TB treatment:

Denver Health TB Program provides free consultation to Colorado providers who are offering latent TB treatment to their patients. Contact the TB program at 303-602-7240, Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm.

Other referrals or consultations

Please complete our online referral form, upload relevant documents including results of TB blood or skin tests, imaging reports, and relevant clinical note(s), and request that relevant radiographic images be pushed to the Denver Health PACS system. Alternatively, please provide the patient with imaging on a disk to bring to their clinic visit.
