Welcome to the Denver Sexual Health Clinic at the Public Health Institute at Denver Health. We provide confidential, low- to no-cost sexual health services for people ages 14 and older. Our services focus on two main areas:
- Testing, treatment, and prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)- also known as Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)- including HIV
- Birth control and family planning services
Our services are designed to support your health and well-being in a safe, compassionate and respectful environment.
Appointments are required for all visits. Call 303-602-3540 to schedule an appointment with us! We are located on the second floor of the Denver Health Outpatient Medical Center (Pavilion L) located at 660 Bannock St, Denver, CO 80204.
Our services are low-to-no cost. Information about how our clinic’s payment and billing work can be found below. Patients who are Deaf or hard of hearing may use 711 or their preferred telecommunications relay service to contact our clinic for scheduling assistance.
STI Testing and Treatment
Do you have symptoms of an STD?
If you have signs or symptoms of an STD, or something just feels out of the ordinary for you, it's best you meet with a medical provider to have a full evaluation. Our providers can evaluate the following STDs and conditions:
- Bacterial Vaginosis
- Cervicitis
- Chlamydia
- Gonorrhea
- Hepatitis C (HCV)
- HIV
- Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
- Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV)
- Non-Gonococcal Urethritis (NGU)
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
- Syphilis
- Trichomoniasis
- Urethritis
Have you been in contact to an STD?
If you have had a partner who tested positive for an STD or received treatment for an STD, you will need an appointment with one of our medical providers to talk about what the recommended next steps for you are.
Have you been in contact to HIV?
If you are concerned you were exposed to HIV in the past 72 hours (3 days) please call our clinic ASAP to discuss coming into our clinic to be evaluated for a medication called nPEP (nonoccupational postexposure prophylaxis). You can also visit our Urgent Care or Emergency Department. It is important to be evaluated as soon after your exposure to HIV as possible.
Treatment for an STI
If you tested positive for a STD at a different clinic and need treatment, you will need to call us at 303-602-3540 to make an appointment for treatment evaluation.
Routine Testing
Our routine testing services are designed for people who do not have any symptoms and who have not had a confirmed contact to an STD. If you have any symptoms or know you were in contact with a STD, you will need a visit with one of our providers.
We offer routine testing through a variety of ways:
- Quick-tests:
- The are also called "Testing-only" visits. These visits are a great option for people with no symptoms, no concerns, and no need to talk to a medical provider. For these visits, you will come to our clinic and complete a brief sexual health questionnaire. You will not meet with a provider to discuss any concerns. Instead, after our providers review the sexual health assessment, labs will be ordered by one of our providers, and you will head down to the first floor of the Outpatient Medical Center to do your testing.
- Because you will not be meeting with a provider, if you have any symptoms, have been in contact with a STD, or have questions or concerns you want to discuss with a provider, you will not be eligible for a Quick Test. This is to ensure that our clinic is able to provide you the appropriate management per clinic guidelines.
- Tests that are considered for these types of visits include: gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, HIV, and hepatitis C. Testing for other types of STIs or conditions cannot be done through this type of visit.
- If you are not eligible but still have concerns or are looking to be tested for something other than gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, HIV, or hepatitis C, please call our clinic to schedule an appointment with one of our providers.
- At-home self-testing:
- Our clinic runs an at-home low-to-no cost STI testing program through Test Yourself Colorado. You are able to have test kits sent to your home for HIV, chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. The HIV test is completed by using OraQuick which allows you to check your HIV status quickly at home. The syphilis test is completed using the First to Know syphilis test which also allows you to check for syphilis quickly at home, however this test can only be used by people who have never had a positive test result for syphilis before. The gonorrhea and chlamydia tests are sent via mail to be processed in the lab. All testing is ordered through the Test Yourself Colorado website.
- Testing in the Community:
Our Community-based Sexual Health team provides free, confidential STD/STI, HIV, and hepatitis C testing in a supportive and welcoming environment. We prioritize individual needs, fostering open and respectful communication to help you make informed decisions about your sexual health. Our services are offered in English and Spanish, and convenient testing locations throughout the Denver metro area are available by appointment or walk-in. No insurance is required or collected.

We tailor testing to your individual needs, providing accurate information about STD/STIs, HIV, and hepatitis C as well as connect you with valuable community resources to empower you to take control of your sexual health. - Provider visit:
- If you do not have any symptoms and have had a partner with a STD but you still have concerns or questions for a provider, you can request to be scheduled a testing visit with one of our providers.
STD Treatment
If you are diagnosed with an STD at our clinic, sometimes you will get treatment during your visit. If you find out later that one of your results was positive and you need treatment, you can come back to our clinic for medications. You can also visit your primary care provider for STD treatment.
What if my HIV test is positive?
If you have a positive HIV test in our clinic, we have a Linkage to Care team that will work with you to make sure you get set up with a doctor that will provide you with the best care for you. Our team will also make sure to answer any questions you have.

PrEP for HIV Prevention
PrEP for HIV prevention is medicine that can reduce your chance of getting HIV. PrEP can stop HIV from taking hold and spreading throughout your body. Check out this resource to learn about the different types of HIV PrEP.
At the Denver Sexual Health Clinic, we can meet with anyone who wants to get started on PrEP. Depending on a couple of things including your insurance status as well as the PrEP option you’d like to pursue, you might be eligible to get PrEP our clinic on on-going basis. If you are ineligible to get PrEP at our clinic on an on-going basis, we have a team of navigators that will provide you resources on guidance on where to get your PrEP care from.
Birth Control and Family Planning
We offer confidential, affordable birth control and family planning services to help you make informed decisions about your reproductive health. Services include pregnancy testing, emergency contraception, a variety of birth control options including pills, the shot, patch, vaginal ring, IUDs and the arm implant, as well as condoms, Pap smears, and family planning and preconception counseling. Cost of Services and Billing
The Denver Sexual Health Clinic offers services at a reduced cost.
If you do not have health insurance or if Denver Health is not in your insurance plan network, we charge for some services based on a sliding fee scale that ranges from $0 to $70. No one is denied care based on ability to pay.
If Denver Health is within your insurance plan's network, we will bill your health insurance plan. The Denver Sexual Health Clinic does not bill you for costs that your health insurance plan does not cover. Our clinic does not mail bills to your home. You might get an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from your insurance company which explains what your plan did and did not pay, but you are not responsible for what your plan does not pay. An Explanation of Benefits is not a bill. Please check if your insurance plan is accepted at Denver Health.
If you have confidentiality concerns about having an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) mailed to your home, we can avoid using your insurance. Please be sure to tell our front desk staff that you do not want to use your insurance. If you don't want to use your insurance, you will be charged using our sliding fee scale.
Frequently Asked Questions
Some sexual health and family planning needs require medical attention sooner than others. We strive to provide as many services as we can to as many people as we can. For this reason, we might not be able to offer you an appointment and instead recommend you seek care at another clinic including our urgent care.
- The Denver Sexual Health Clinic can see people as young as 14 years.
- Individuals aged 14-17 years old are able to receive confidential services in our clinic without parental consent.
- Our clinic staff will call you if any of your results are positive to talk next steps.
- We strongly encourage all our patients to sign up for the Denver Health MyChart. Your results will be available for you on MyChart as soon as they are resulted by our lab.
No. We do not require referrals to have an appointment with us. In some cases, your doctor may send us a referral. Our medical staff will review the referral to see if it is for something we are able to provide services for.
- Some of our appointments can be done over the telephone, but not all. Our front desk staff can let you know if your visit can be over the telephone.
- You must be in the State of Colorado at the time of your telehealth appointment.
- If you need any laboratory testing after a telehealth appointment, our providers will place lab orders at the time of your appointment. After your appointment, you can then go to the Outpatient Medical Center Laboratory to complete your lab tests.
- We offer some vaccines, however eligibility varies based on vaccine type, availability, and patient coverage status. Talk to your provider during your visit about what vaccines you are eligible for.
- The Public Health Institute at Denver Health also has an Immunization Clinic where you can inquire about and obtain vaccines.
- No. The person needing an appointment needs to speak with our front desk staff to be scheduled in our clinic. This includes people aged 14-17 years old.
- If you or the person needing an appointment doesn't speak English, our front desk has access to certified interpreters for over 200 languages.
Denver Health has a team of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners based out of the Adult Emergency Department and Pediatric Emergency Department that are specialized to help you navigate this challenging time. They can be reached 24 hours a day at 303-602-3007.
