Executive Director Bob Belknap, MD Shares His Background and PHIDH’s Next Steps

Robert Belknap, MD, is the Executive Director of the Public Health Institute at Denver Health (PHIDH). Including his residency and fellowship training, Belknap has worked at Denver Health for 26 years. He recently stepped down after 10 years as medical director of the Tuberculosis Clinic at PHIDH, handing over this leadership position to incoming medical director Amy Beeson, MD.

What is EYE for Prevention?
Engaging Youth Expertise (EYE) for Prevention is a team of passionate young leaders and researchers aged 13 to 25 with lived experiences. Through a holistic and trauma-informed approach, the team focuses on preventing substance misuse and promoting mental health and healing. As a youth-led group, they focus on empowerment, advocacy, and equity in everything they do. The team acknowledges that each person comes with a unique background story, distinct needs, and challenges.

Pride Month is a time to celebrate the courage, resilience, and contributions of LGBTQIA+ individuals throughout history. It's also a timely reminder of the ongoing challenges this community still faces, especially in health care. As we engage with LGBTQIA+ community members, it is important to acknowledge those who are different from us and allow LGBTQIA+ community members visibility of those of similar identities. Many of us interact with LGBTQIA+ individuals daily even if we may not know the details of their identities.
Syphilis Is On The Rise In Colorado

Syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) that doesn’t always show signs or symptoms. Those who are pregnant can pass the infection in utero to their baby without knowing it. If untreated, syphilis can cause major complications for adults and can be deadly for babies. But, with testing and immediate treatment, we can cure it – at little or no cost to you.
