In Denver, rates of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis – three of the most common sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) – are up dramatically for the fourth consecutive year.   And while low- and no-cost, confidential testing and treatment are available at Denver Public Health’s STD Clinic, experts believe that most cases go undiagnosed, potentially causing infertility, increasing the risk of HIV, and causing other problems.

Denver Public Health and Tri-County Health Department successfully collaborated with Aurora Public Schools and Aurora Hills Middle School to test the faculty and students who were potentially exposed to TB last fall.

Denver Public Health continues to partner with Tri-County Health Department, Aurora Public Schools, and Aurora Hills Middle School to test people who were potentially exposed to tuberculosis (TB) during the fall semester. Initial testing in January did not show that anyone got infected with TB at the school. However, repeat testing last week of the same people who were exposed showed that some have been infected, but none of them are sick.

Denver Public Health (DPH) announced today the launch of the “Being Sure Is” advertising campaign using local people, not paid models, to encourage all sexually active people to get regularly tested for HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).The campaign follows the recent news that rates of STIs in Colorado have climbed 183 percent in 2017 from 2013. The release of the “Being Sure Is” campaign supports DPH’s commitment to fast, flexible, no- and low-cost testing that matches the needs of our city.

Denver Public Health has opened an investigation into a potential tuberculosis (TB) exposure at Aurora Hills Middle School in Aurora, CO. Denver Public Health is working closely with Tri-County Health Department and Aurora Hills Middle School to educate faculty and students about TB, and to test anyone potentially exposed. 

At this time there is no ongoing risk for TB exposure at the school.
