Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that is spread through the air. It usually affects the lungs but may also affect other parts of the body, including the brain, kidneys or spine.

Most people are infected many years before developing active disease. By diagnosing and treating people with TB infection, we can prevent them from getting sick and spreading TB to others. Despite this, TB has not been eliminated from Colorado, and people in metro Denver get sick from TB every year.

Report a TB Case

In Colorado, cases of suspected or confirmed active TB disease must be reported to public health within one business day.

For patients who reside in the seven-county Denver metro area (Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, and Jefferson), call us at 303-602-7240 to report a case.

TB is a disease caused by germs spread through the air from one person to another and usually affects the lungs, but may also affect other parts of the body, including the brain, kidneys or spine. Getting TB typically requires many hours of contact with a person who is sick from TB. TB cannot be spread by touching door knobs, tables, utensils or other surfaces.

Some medical insurance plans offer coverage for travel-related services, while others do not. Here at the Immunization and Travel Clinic at Denver Health, we do not bill insurance plans for travel-related services. We will provide you with an itemized receipt that you may submit to your insurance plan to seek full or partial reimbursement. Please note, Medicaid does not pay for most travel related services.

Yes, you MUST make a travel consultation appointment if:

  • You need any prescriptions (such as malaria, traveler's diarrhea, or high-altitude sickness.)
  • You are unsure which vaccinations you need for international trips and want to receive travel advice specific to your destination(s).
  • You are over the age of 60 and requesting a Yellow Fever vaccination.

Travel consultation appointments fill up quickly. It is recommended that you make an appointment at least six weeks before your departure.

We are no longer a walk-in clinic and appointments are required for all visits. If you know which vaccines you need for an international trip, and do not require any prescriptions for travel medications, you can make a 20-minute vaccination appointment.

We are an official Yellow Fever Vaccination Center as designated by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.

The Travel Clinic is available to help answer any questions you have before international travel; call 303-602-3520 to make an appointment.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment to ensure you have time to check in and fill out the necessary paperwork. If you arrive more than 15 minutes late for your appointment, you will be asked to reschedule.

*All vaccine and consult prices are listed on our vaccine cost list. Prices are current but are subject to change.*

We do not bill health insurance plans for travel-related vaccines or consultations. Payment is due at the time of service.

The consultation is thorough and will take 45 minutes - 2 hours, depending on the number of travelers and the complexity of your travel itinerary. It is conducted by a travel health nurse who has immediate access to a team of specialists if there are any health-specific questions or concerns. Be prepared to discuss:

  • Your medical history.
  • Questions or concerns you may have about travel.
  • Safety practices and tips for disease prevention.

Your pre-travel consultation with our travel health nurse is designed to help prepare you for a safe and healthy travel and provide you with the resources needed if you get sick.

If you are sick after your trip (fever, flu-like symptoms, or persistent diarrhea) we encourage you to contact your primary care provider for evaluation. You may also contact the Travel Clinic for referrals.

Mpox (formally known as monkeypox) is a virus that usually causes a mild illness and a characteristic rash. Symptoms may start with a flu-like illness including fever, headache, muscle aches, exhaustion, and swollen lymph nodes. A rash typically develops within 1-3 days. The rash can occur on any part of the body including the genital region. The rash typically changes from red spots to red bumps to blisters to pustules (pus-filled blisters) before scabbing over and resolving. Rectal pain has been associated with mpox in some recent cases.
